The United Nations (UN) Human Rights body has now officially protested against the decision of the International Crimes Tribunal to sentence former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to death. The UN has quoted that the death sentence is against the international fair trial provisions, especially because the trial was allegedly held in absentia and without adequate accommodations to support the defense counsel.
One of the leading political leaders (Hasina) was convicted of the charges that were filed against her before the tribunal. The diplomatic blowback has grown, and Dhaka is quoted as demanding the return of the former Prime Minister by New Delhi, who is now thought to be in hiding in India. Her Awami League leaders, presently in the unknown places, have reported that they can only revisit Bangladesh when there is a commitment to granting her a sense of political inclusion and have also indicated that they expected India to keep on giving her a place, a sense of honour and security.
Although the verdict itself and the resulting diplomatic crisis in question are high-profile, the authorities in Dhaka indicated that the law and order have not deteriorated yet on November 19; however, the diplomatic response can be expected.
