On November 19, 2025, Nitish Kumar was unanimously elected leader of the legislature party of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar, becoming the second party in the state to be elected to a record tenth term as Chief Minister. The announcement came after a meeting of the newly elected MLAs of the alliance in Patna. The leaders of the BJP, such as Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Sinha, were also present, which confirms the unity of the coalition following the recent exercise of forming the government.

Kumar resigned to the Governor and claimed to have the new government established, where the oath-taking would be done the next day at the historic Gandhi Maidan. It is expected to be a big show of national coalition power, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah should be present. It then switches to the decision-making process in the assigning of the cabinet seats and the agreeable post of the Assembly Speaker, which reflects the stakes being so high among the ruling coalition in the state. The smooth transition is important to highlight the consistency of the NDA mandate in the state.
