Texas Flood Tragedy: 82 Dead, Dozens Missing

A deadly flash flood in Central Texas has killed at least 82 people, with dozens still missing. Torrential rain caused the Guadalupe River to rise 26 feet in just 45 minutes, sweeping away a girls’ summer camp near Kerrville. Eleven children and one counselor are still unaccounted for. Over 850 people have been rescued so far.

Questions are rising over why some areas didn’t receive emergency alerts in time. Many families didn’t know they were in danger until it was too late. Officials say outdated systems and budget cuts may have contributed to the disaster. Governor Greg Abbott and FEMA are promising full support, but the public wants answers.

Among the victims are children, teachers, and a local fire chief. The camp’s ban on phones also cut off access to warnings. Search teams using helicopters, drones, and boats are still working to find the missing as Texas mourns its dead.
