Gaza Bombed as Truce Talks Intensify

Israel launched fresh airstrikes on Gaza on Sunday, killing at least 38 people, as ceasefire negotiations entered a critical stage. A 60-day truce, backed by the U.S., is on offer and is expected to clear the way for the release of hostages held by Hamas since the October 2023 attack.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu left for Washington to meet President Trump, who said a deal could be reached this week. However, fighting has escalated, with over 130 targets hit in Gaza over the past 24 hours. Meanwhile, the humanitarian crisis is worsening. More than 57,000 Palestinians have died since the violence started, and almost the entire population of Gaza’s 2.3 million is displaced.

Tensions remain high, with civilians growing more doubtful of the ceasefire’s success. Aid convoys have been allowed into northern Gaza, but many fear the aid is too little, too late. The world waits as bombings and negotiations are conducted simultaneously.
