Uruguay beat Canada in a penalty shootout
Uruguay finished third in Copa America 2024 after defeating Canada 4-3 in a penalty shootout.
In the match for the third place on Sunday morning, the game reached a shootout after the scheduled 90-minute match was tied 2-2. Where all four players who scored a penalty for Uruguay missed two players from Canada. Federico Valverde, Rodrigo Bentancur, De Arrascaeta and Luis Suarez scored for Uruguay.
Only Mathieu Choiniere, Moise Bombito and Jonathan David scored for Canada. Ismael Kone’s shot was saved by Uruguayan goalkeeper Sergio Rochet, while Alfonso David’s last penalty hit the crossbar.
Before that, Suarez scored an equalizing goal in injury time for Uruguay, who were on the verge of defeat.
In the eighth minute of the game, Rodrigo Bent Nakur scored a goal to give Uruguay the lead. Mon scored the equalizer for Canada in the 22nd minute.
