Plans by Israel to capture Gaza City are being strongly decried at an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council with the UK, France, China and Russia threatening that it could breach international law and aggravate Gaza humanitarian crisis. Netanyahu demanded that the operation should destroy the Hamas strongholds and release the hostages faster.
UN officials have given the condition as a case of starvation pure and simple, with more than 200 hunger related deaths and over 61,000 since the 2023 Israeli offensive. Netanyahu declared more humanitarian corridors, air drops and points of delivering aid without worrying much about civilian safety.
There have been demonstrations in Israel and critics have cautioned that the plan poses a threat to hostages. The US supported Israel by accusing Hamas of prolonging the war. The international media was also accused by Netanyahu of carrying out Hamas propaganda as it persisted to deny access to most foreign journalists who could freely enter Gaza.
