Former U.S. President Donald Trump firmly rejected reports on Monday that U.S. negotiators had offered Iran limited uranium enrichment rights as part of ongoing nuclear talks.
“WE WILL NOT ALLOW ANY ENRICHMENT OF URANIUM!” Trump declared in a post on Truth Social, contradicting reports that U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff had conveyed a proposal via Oman allowing low-level enrichment for civilian purposes, Xinhua reported.
While the White House defended the proposal as “severe” and in line with U.S. interests, it did not directly address Trump’s denial or the apparent contradiction. Iranian officials, meanwhile, criticized the U.S. draft agreement as containing “radical” demands and reiterated their insistence on the right to enrich uranium and obtain clear sanctions relief.
Since April, the U.S. and Iran have engaged in five rounds of indirect nuclear negotiations, mediated by Oman, according to Xinhua. Despite repeated efforts, the talks have yet to yield a breakthrough.
