RCB ended their 18-year wait for a title by winning the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 title by beating Punjab Kings by 6 runs in a nail-biting final at Narendra Modi Stadium.
RCB batted first after being put into the field by losing the toss and made a competitive score of 190 for 9 wickets from 20 overs. Punjab, in pursuit of 191, could make only 184 runs for 7 wickets in their 20 overs, coming up short despite a hard-fought battle.
For Punjab, Shashank Singh scored a gallant unbeaten 61 runs and got his team into the game till the last. Josh Inglis contributed 39 runs, while the openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh contributed 24 runs and 26 runs, respectively. Captain Shreyas Iyer failed to contribute anything, having been given out on a duck in the last.
When Punjab needed 29 runs from the last over, RCB remained calm and protected the score to claim their first-ever IPL title. The victory has been legendary for RCB captain Virat Kohli, whose jersey number 18 matched the years the team waited to claim their first-ever title.
RCB’s bowling attack was dominant, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Krunal Pandya taking 2 wickets each. Yash Dayal, Josh Hazlewood, and Romario Shepherd took one wicket each.
Earlier, in RCB batting, Virat Kohli made 43 of 35 balls, including three fours. Opening partner Phil Salt scored 16 before being caught by Shreyas Iyer. RCB had accumulated 55/1 at the powerplay.
Middle-order scored by Mayank Agarwal (24), captain Rajat Patidar (26), Liam Livingstone (25), Jitesh Sharma (24), and Romario Shepherd (17), but the lower-order lacked double figures.
The best bowlers were Kyle Jamieson and Arshdeep Singh, who took 3 wickets each, while Azmatullah Omarzai, Vijaykumar Vyshak, and Yuzvendra Chahal took one wicket each.
Through this historical triumph, RCB at last broke the jinx and won their maiden-ever IPL title, and IPL 2025 is an unforgettable season.
