An official of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said that the process of selecting the new coach for the Indian team has reached its final stage. With the end of the ninth T20 World Cup, the tenure of head coach Rahul Dravid ended.

Before that, the BCCI had invited applications for the new head coach. According to Indian media, BCCI has already started the process of making former player Gautam Gambhir the head coach.

However, nothing has been officially said about this matter. Even Gautam Gambhir has not given any response on this matter. According to the latest developments related to this, Gautam Gambhir has taken a leave from Indian Premier League club Kolkata Knight Riders. An official of the Bengal Cricket Association has also confirmed this information.

Gautam Gambhir left the Kolkata Knight Riders to become the head coach of the Indian team. The name of that officer has not been made public. Gautam Gambhir has a deep connection with Kolkata Knight Riders and Eden Gardens Stadium. He is also the captain of the team that won Kolkata the IPL title in 2012 and 2014. After that, in 2024, he won the IPL title for Kolkata in the role of protector.

 According to a BCCI official, Gautam Gambhir will take over as the head coach of the Indian team during the tour of Sri Lanka later this month. BCCI Secretary Jai Shah has also said that the Indian team will get a new head coach before the tour of Sri Lanka. However, he did not mention the name of the person.
