According to a new NPR/PBS News/Marist poll, which was carried out in the period between November 10-13, 2025, there is a serious red flag among the Republicans as they head to the 2026 midterm elections. A survey conducted shows that democrats have their largest margin- a massive 14-point lead- since 2017 on the issue of which party the respondents would vote for today had the midterms occurred.
In particular, a Democratic candidate would be elected by 55 percent of registered voters as opposed to 41 percent of Republicans. It is this turnaround of what happened a year ago due to the declining approval ratings of President Trump at 39% currently and the unrelenting economic frustrations of the voters that is credited to this reversal.
Moreover, a composite of six among ten Americans attribute the recent government shutdown to congressional republicans or Trump. More importantly, independents overwhelmingly sided with democrats by 33 points, and this is a significant shift in politics. Through the poll, it can be seen that economic factors, especially the high cost of rent and food, are the most pressing concern to most voters, and the Democrats are riding on this popularity at the moment.
