7.1 magnitude earthquake, tsunami warning in Japan

Japan has been placed under a tsunami alert following a strong 7.1-magnitude earthquake that shook the country.

According to Japanese authorities, the western islands of Kyushu and Shikoku face a one-meter rise in sea level on their Pacific shore. The United States Geological Survey reports that at 4:42 PM today, a 7.1 magnitude earthquake occurred close to Miyazaki, Japan.
The epicenter is located in the Hyuganada Sea, and the Japan Meteorological Agency has also reported a magnitude of 7.1.The earthquake was situated at a shallow depth of 8.8 kilometers, based on preliminary data.
